Simple Solution to Cure a Slice
Practicing with the Ball above Your Feet to Cure a Slice
Hi, Robin here. These days, with so much information available about the golf swing, it’s very easy to lose sight of the simple solutions. We over analyze things. We search too deep into the root cause of certain faults.
So, what I want to do in this video is remind you of a simple solution for a very common fault. If you’ve got the fault of dominating the downswing with your upper body, and club and arms, so that your arms come outside. The club gets steep. You take big divots, and your divots point to the left. You’ll hit weak shots to the right, weak cut shots to the right.
One of the most simple solutions to provide you the feeling for the fix is to hit golf balls with the ball above your feet, or some people would call it a “Hook Lie”. And by simply finding a lie in the driving range where the ball is above your feet, and hitting some shots, you’ll naturally start to shallow out your swing. The club shaft will come down at a flatter angle. You’ll start to sweep the ball off the surface. You’ll start to feel like you can draw the golf ball.
And after a certain amount of practice, you’ll start to develop a very strong awareness of the way your body’s moving, how you’re moving to shallow out your swing, and then simply you can repeat that when you go back to the flat lay.
So don’t lose sight of the simple solutions. There’s so much information available these days. If you’re slicing, find a lay with the ball above your feet. Hit some golf balls. Get a feeling for drawing the ball, and then repeat that when you go back to a normal lie.
