Putting Drill To Keep Your Head Still
A simple drill to keep your head still
Hi, Robin here. Are you somebody who struggles keeping your head still during putting? You find that through the impact zone, your head works back. Your weight works back onto your right foot? Maybe you’ve tried lots of drills. People have held your head. You’ve put sticks against your head. You’ve putted at home with your head against the wall. But when you take those things away, nothing changes. You’re putting stroke, you still have this rock-back look to your head. It makes an un-solid contact that adds loft to the putter. It’s really difficult to get the ball rolling correctly, and even starting on line. Well, I’ve got a really good drill for you. One that I’ve had a lot of success with. I’ve tried all of those other ones with many of my students and really haven’t had that much success until I tried this.
First thing I did is I had one of these sponge balls. I asked one of my students just to put it under their left foot, and squeeze it into the ground. Basically, hit putts keeping that same pressure on the ball under the left foot. Try not to let the air come out of the ball. And instantly, we saw the head not move. The putter head stayed lower to the ground. The ball started rolling correctly. But if you don’t have one of these little sponge balls, we found this to be equally as good. One of the sponges you clean your car with. Same principle, just get it in the right spot. Squeeze the air out of it, and then keep the same pressure on it throughout your entire stroke. So, if you’re somebody who’s struggling, keeping your head still during your putting, give this a try. It’s something, I’ve struggled like you in lessons to make the change with people, until I tried this drill. I’ve had a lot of success with it. I think you’ll gain the feeling almost instantly.
