Putting Alignment

3 Step Putting Routine to Aim Correctly

PUTTER FACE ALIGNMENT – Aiming correctly in putting is probably the most important aspect of putting when you face a short putt.

“What is the most important thing about putting?” My answer is always the same: it depends on what kind of putt you’ve got. If you’ve got a long putt, certainly the most important thing is speed control. If you’ve got a breaking putt, I think it’s speed control plus your ability to read the green. But if you’ve got a short putt, without a doubt, the most important thing on a short putt is to align your putter face correctly. If you’re struggling aligning your putter face, have a look at what the pros are doing.

The first part of their routine will be aligning their putter face, perhaps the one hand or two. But they’ll be looking at their aim point, looking at the putter face, and making small adjustments until their happy. They’ll then take their set up, perhaps look at the hole cup one more time just to get a sense of speed, and then trust their alignment and their stroke.

So if you’re struggling with your short putts, struggling aligning your putter face, work on your routine.
