Make More Left To Right Putts – Part 2
Why do You Miss Left to Righter Low?
Hi, Robin here. It’s part two of hitting the left to right putt. A putt which most golfers seem to find very difficult, commonly missing the ball on the low side of the hole cup.
In part one, I talked a little bit about a common mistake I see in the setup position. In this video, I’m going to talk about the way you use your eyes, and how you look at your target.
Now, what I commonly see is players going through their green reading process, choosing their starting line, their aim point, I’ve highlighted that with a tee peg here. But after they’ve gone through their routine, they’re in their setup position, and have aligned their putter face at their chosen aim point, they’ll look at the hole cup rather than their aim point. Now simply, instinctively, you’ll tend to start the ball towards where you’re looking.
Even though you’ve aligned your putter face to your aim point, looking at the hole cup will make you push the ball to the right of where you’ve aligned your putter face. You’re missing the low side nearly every single time.
I need you to trust that the ball will take the break. Almost in your mind, every putt is straight. So when you’re taking your setup, you’ve aligned your putter face towards your aim point, rather than looking at the hole cup, I want you to focus on your aim point. Trust your green rate, and hit the putt towards your aim point, almost as if it was a straight putt. For sure you’re going to miss less balls on the low side of the hole cup, and the ball coming in the high side of the hole has always got a better chance of dropping in than a ball coming in on the low side of the hole.
