A Drill To Improve Your Ball Contact

Strike your shots solid

This is one of my favorite drills to help anyone improve the quality of their impact position and ball contact.  This video will show you that by simply practicing creating the correct low point in your swing, (striking the ground in the correct place) your mechanics can automatically start improving.  This drill can help with fixing fat, thin and topped shots.  It can also help fix the faults of hanging back, early release and scooping, and with better ball contact, it can help increase distance.

If you’re a player who struggles hitting the ball thin or heavy and you know the mechanics of how to hit the golf ball solid but you just can’t get a feel for it, try this simple exercise the next time you’re practicing.

Bring some talcum powder and draw a line on the ground and the goal of the exercise is very simple. I want you to learn to develop your low point more towards the target side. The feedback will be that you take a divot or strike the mat after the line.

In doing that you’ll be improving your mechanics. Your weight will be shifting to the left foot. You’ll be developing a little more lag, helping anybody who scoops or early releases, eliminate that fault.

So take some practice swings, learning to strike the ground after the line.

Once you’ve a feel for that you can actually place the ball on the line and hit some shots.
