2 DIFFERENT METHODS
Even though there are different methods around the green, we believe that for a standard ball flight, there is only one
STANDARD BALL FLIGHT
SETUP
-
Stance width narrow, with the left foot turned out slightly
-
Feet are square to the target, but will look open due to the foot position
-
Ball position approx. middle of the heels
-
Upper body slightly open to the target, with the chest pointed the left side of the ball
-
The chest position will place slightly more weight on the lead foot
-
Stacked position with the body parts on top of each other
-
Posture & balance the same for a regular shot, making sure bent forward so arms hang underneath
-
Right hand grip weaker than normal, placed more over the club
-
Soft arms, more so than a regular shot
-
Lie of the club (shaft plane) sitting on the ground as the club has been designed
-
Very little forward lean of the club shaft
-
Clubface slightly open (1 o'clock)
BACKSWING
-
Body is a stabilizer (not much body movement)
-
Club swings on plane, hands and head
-
Right arm folding and rotating (externally rotating)
-
Dish angle in the left wrist remaining (extension)
-
Clubface square or open to the plane
-
Medium sided arch as a result of a natural setting (cocking) of the wrists
Check point – toe up, and in the middle of the hands at waist high
DOWNSWING – SEQUENCE
-
Opposite to the full swing
-
Clubhead moves first and fastest in the beginning of the downswing
-
The correct sequence being clubhead first, then the left arm and chest, lastly the hips
-
The shaft position, and loft of the club very similar to that of address
-
The bounce of the club will be making contact with the ground
RELEASE
-
Body rotation supporting the movement of the club and arms
-
Right wrist staying underneath the left wrist, so the clubface may appear open
-
Dish angle remains the in the left wrist (extension)
-
Left arm folding around the left side of the ribs
-
Shoulder turn level, assisted by the left foot position
-
Medium sided arch as a result of natural resetting (cocking) of the wrists
BODY MOVEMENT
-
Always moving in the direction of the target
-
Head moves towards the target in the backswing
-
Stays towards the target in the downswing and release
