Drill 2 to create ground force

As I have said before, Ground Force is a key for understanding how to change direction from backswing to downswing (Transition).  A good transition is a key to an efficient swing; very rarely will you see an elite player without a good transition.

– It can help to improve clubhead speed.

– It can help to transfer your weight to your lead foot, insuring a solid contact, compressing the ball.

– It can ensure that your lower body is starting the downswing, curing Hanging Back, Over The Top, Early Release, and Scooping.

– It can help cure Slice Shots, Heavy Shots, Thin Shots and can help players with a lack of Distance.

Hi this is Robin Symes. Here’s a simple drill to help you improve your transition and your ground force. Take an old, water bottle, un-tighten the cap slightly so you’ve released a little bit of air, just enough that your left foot will be able to sit on top of it. Keep the pressure on this at address and constant throughout the downswing. And now to start your downswing, I want you to feel that you squeeze the air out of the bottle. Perhaps you can hear a little, bit of crackling of the plastic, a good indication that you’ve put pressure onto your left foot in the transition. So, regular back swing, push the air our of the water bottle, swing through as normal. It’s a good way to feel the correct transition and improve your ground force, helping you improve your club head speed.
