Simple Solution to Cure a Hook

Practicing with the Ball below Your Feet to Cure a Hook

Hi, Robin here with a simple solution for any players who are struggling getting the golf ball starting on line. You find that your golf ball is starting to the right side of the target, getting push shots, and sometimes you’ll hook the ball back to the left. You might also be finding it difficult to strike the ball solid, hitting thin shots and heavy shots.

Now, if this is you, what will be happening in your downswing is that your lower body will be going towards the golf ball. Your upper body will be going away from the golf ball. Some people call this ‘Early Extension’. Your club head will be coming down from behind your body, from the inside. Your club will be traveling to the right through impact. That’s why you’re hitting push shots, hook shots, and finding it difficult to strike the ball solid.

Now, a very simple solution to that, without getting overly technical, is to find the lie in your driving range, or even the golf course, where the ball is below your feet. Some people call this a ‘Slice Lie’. By hitting shots from this lie, it’ll be encouraging you to keep you upper body forward and your lower body behind you. The club will automatically be coming more out in front of you, on plain.

You can see from this lie, if you were to lose your angles, upper body away from the golf ball, lower body towards it, it’s almost impossible to strike the golf ball. So, repeat this. Hit a lot of shots from this lie, developing a sense for keeping your body angles, and the club coming out in front of you. And once you’ve got a feeling for that, go back to a normal lie and try to repeat the same movement. You’ll start to find you can get the ball starting more on line, with a more solid contact. A simple solution to a number of problems.
