A Key to a Great Swing – Pressure Transfer

Learn the key pressure points.  It is important.

Hi, Robin here with a simple drill to help players improve their weight transfer and become more aware of where the correct pressure points are in your feet. It’ll help any players who are struggling loading up correctly into the right foot in the backswing, or any players in the downswing who are spinning back, hanging back on their right foot, hips are opening up too early. All you need is an alignment rod, maybe an old golf club or a golf shaft. What I want you to do is place the rod or the shaft on the ground at a slight diagonal to your target line. This will allow you to place your right foot, sorry your right heel on the rod and your left toe on the rod. These are two really crucial pressure points in the swing which I want you to become more aware of, certainly in the backswing and in the transition.

Now from here, if you rotate correctly in the backswing, you’ll feel an increase in pressure under your right heel. The stick, the golf club on the ground will give you an increased awareness of that.  You’ll be able to feel that. From here, I want you to keep some pressure under your right heel as you increase the pressure under your left toe. A really key move in a good golf swing. That’s going to be ensuring that you’re not hanging back on your right foot. Also, it will stop this look where you spin your hips open too early. It’ll stabilize your lower body so you can transfer the speed of your body to the speed of the club head. Now from here, you can let your hips go.  Your hips can open up. The pressure will reduce under your left toe and certainly start to reduce under your right heel. So a great drill to help you improve your weight transfer to give you more awareness of where the correct pressure points are in your feet.  You can make practice swings with it. You can also hit golf balls doing the same drill.
